08 - Protest

Less than a week ago, a man was killed by police kneeling on his neck, and the whole thing was captured, leading to people around the world literally witnessing as his life slipped away. For some people, this has awakened a deep seeded outrage against these events, and the general inequality that certain members of our society are faced with. They have taken to the streets to protest, growing day by day.

There is not much that can be said about the catalyst to these events - if you have not seen this, it is likely a matter of time before you do. Enough people have seen this, ordinary, everyday people, and it has incensed them so, that the only thing they could do is take to the streets and cry into the void for fairness. Any reasoned person would find it difficult to disagree with their outcry. They are opposing racism and inequality; they are opposing inequality.

The Paraclete teaches us that we have to look out for each other, and respect the rights bestowed upon ourselves and one another. The Third Keystone asks each of us to uphold the rights and autonomy of others as you would your own. What happened is a prime example of what happens when those rights are taken away. A seemingly extrajudicial killing is a blatant show of how someone can lose their life, if equal rights are not afforded to them. This is why all of us need to raise our voice and fight for every breath, fight for every right, for for each other.

We have taken to the streets to protest, add our voices to those who yearn for an equitable outcome - all members of the Temple should do what they can to add their voice as well. This yearning for fairness and rights cannot be ignored.
